District-Level Multi-Stakeholder Meeting Held in Umerkot to Strengthen Human Rights Coordination

A District-Level Multi-Stakeholder Meeting was convened in Umerkot, chaired by Mr. Rajveer Singh Sodha, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Sindh on Human Rights. The objective of the meeting was to enhance coordination among key public and private sector institutions, including government departments, academia, and civil society organizations, to bridge existing gaps in service delivery and promote the protection and promotion of human rights in the district.


Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), co chaired delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the institutional human rights mechanisms guaranteed under the Constitution of Pakistan and enshrined in national and provincial laws. He highlighted the roles and responsibilities of various duty bearers and the importance of collaboration to ensure that rights are protected for all citizens across Sindh.


The meeting was also attended by the Mr.Naveed Ahmed Larik Deputy Commissioner Umerkot and Mr.Uzair Ahmed Memon Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Umerkot, who actively engaged with participants and responded to the concerns raised by representatives from local communities, non-governmental organizations, and other stakeholders. Issues discussed included access to justice, protection of minorities, child and women rights, bonded labor, and the need for improved inter-departmental coordination.


The session concluded with a call for continuous dialogue, joint planning, and action to address human rights challenges at the grassroots level through inclusive, accountable, and rights-based governance.
