The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) hosted a meeting with representatives from the Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) at its head office in Karachi to discuss mutual collaboration on press freedom and journalist protection.
Mr. Iqbal Detho, Chairperson SHRC, shared key cases related to journalists that SHRC has taken up suo moto, and invited PPF to share any journalist-related cases with the Commission for action. He also emphasized the need for stronger implementation of laws protecting journalists. During the meeting, the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Sindh Protection of Journalists and other media Practitioners Act, 2021 were discussed as critical frameworks influencing the media landscape.
Ms. Sana Ali, Director PPF, highlighted that PPF has been working since 1968 to strengthen the role of the press in Pakistan. She shared that PPF is actively involved in journalist training, capacity-building, and advocacy for press rights across the country.
She appreciated the opportunity to formally connect with SHRC and emphasized the mutual benefits of collaboration — including access to PPF’s resources that may support SHRC’s mandate.
Mr. Detho also expressed SHRC’s interest in contributing to PPF’s training components for journalists and media professionals.
