Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), along with Member Judicial-I, Mr. Mir Safdar Hussain Talpur, conducted an official visit to the Youthful Offenders Industrial School (YOIS), commonly known as Juvenile Jail, Hyderabad. The delegation was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner City Hyderabad, Mr. Babar Saleh Rahpoto, and representatives from the Legal Aid Society (LAS) and SPARC.
During the visit, the SHRC delegation held a comprehensive meeting with the Jail Superintendent, Mr. Nadeem Akhtar, to review the overall human rights conditions, legal aid availability, and the welfare and rehabilitation mechanisms in place for the juvenile inmates.

Chairperson Detho reaffirmed that access to legal aid is a constitutional right and called for the urgent activation of the Oversight Committee, whose notification has been pending. He also stressed the importance of solarizing the facility for sustainable energy and recommended establishing a functional library to support the educational needs of young inmates. He emphasized ensuring access to formal education, including the facilitation of board examinations for eligible students.

Addressing the concern of overcrowding, the Chairperson urged that juveniles from other districts be transferred to their respective district correctional facilities, provided space is available, to maintain proximity to their families and communities.
