A multi-stakeholder public hearing was held in Badin by the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Pakistan, and District Administration Badin, focusing on GSP+ as a bridge between trade incentives and citizens’ rights. The hearing also addressed Human and Labour Rights Due Diligence and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in District Badin.
Chairperson SHRC Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho emphasized the importance of GSP+ in promoting legislative reforms, enforcement, and accountability. He urged regular follow-ups and SHRC’s involvement in key human rights matters. Mr. Detho also applauded the role of civil society and media in raising awareness and holding institutions accountable. He reaffirmed SHRC’s commitment to support district administrations through technical assistance and collaboration.
Mr. Abdullah Dayo highlighted GSP+ as a path to economic growth and protection for marginalized groups. DC Badin Mr. Yasir Bhatti thanked SHRC and FES for engaging stakeholders on this vital topic.
Stakeholders raised key concerns including child labor at brick kilns, lack of resources, and vacant labor officer post, urging immediate action.
