Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), conducted an official visit to District Jail Badin, accompanied by his team and Assistant Commissioner Badin.
The delegation held a detailed meeting with Jail Superintendent Mr. Mazhar Behan to assess the human rights conditions and welfare of inmates.
Chairperson Detho emphasized the importance of providing legal aid to prisoners as guaranteed under the law. He appreciated the jail administration's efforts, especially the solarization of the facility and handicraft initiatives introduced for inmate rehabilitation. He also stressed that inmates referred to hospitals for medical treatment must be properly admitted and cared for without delay.
Chairperson Detho highlighted the overcrowding issue, noting that District Jail Badin houses inmates from Thatta and Sujawal districts that currently lack prison facilities. He recommended that the District Jail Committee conduct regular visits to monitor conditions and provide support.
Furthermore, he underlined the urgent need to improve sanitation and hygiene standards to ensure the health and safety of all prisoners.
