SHRC Chairperson Discusses Human Rights Conditions with SSP Badin

Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), held a productive meeting with Mr. Qamar Raza Jiskani, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) District Badin, to review and discuss the prevailing human rights situation in the district.

During the meeting, Chairperson Detho emphasized the importance of capacity-building and specialized training programs for women police officers, recognizing their important role in ensuring protection for women and other vulnerable groups. He reiterated SHRC’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacities through gender-sensitive training initiatives.

Chairperson also shared that the Commission has sent a formal request to the Inspector General (IG) of Police for the establishment of a Driving License Office in Tharparkar and nearby districts—a long-standing need of the local population. He emphasized that such facilities must also be made available in District Badin to ensure this essential service becomes operational for the benefit of the public.

SSP Jiskani expressed deep concern over the alarming rise in suicide cases across Badin and surrounding areas. He requested the Commission’s support in conducting a comprehensive human rights and mental health survey, alongside awareness initiatives to address the growing mental health crisis.

The SHRC reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with district law enforcement and other stakeholders to address human rights challenges, promote psychological well-being, and improve service delivery at the grassroots level across Sindh.
