On June 15, 2025, over 500 women from 20 union councils gathered at the Sachal Academy Auditorium in Khairpur Mir’s for a district-level advocacy event against Child, Early, and Forced Marriages (CEFM). Youth leaders, government officials, educators, healthcare workers, and civil society came together to protect children's rights.
Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, called child marriage a grave human rights abuse that robs girls of education, health, and a future. He urged stronger implementation at the community level and reminded everyone of the state’s duty to protect children under national and international law.
He highlighted that Sindh was the first province post-18th Amendment to set 18 as the legal marriage age for both genders under the 2013 Child Marriage Restraint Act. SHRC and other departments are updating laws to better protect children.
Commissioner Fayaz Hussain Abbasi stressed the need for collaboration among local governments, police, social welfare, women development, and district administration to end early and forced marriages.
Organized by local CSOs with BSWA, SPO, and Save the Children, the event featured youth-led sessions, panel talks, and cultural performances.
