Rwadari Tehreek: Advancing Minority Rights

The Minorities’ Convention, organized by Rwadari Tehreek in Larkana, aimed to promote religious tolerance, interfaith harmony, and minority rights. It brought together participants from Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Bheel, Baghri, and Muslim communities for dialogue and advocacy.

Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission, Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, addressed key issues such as discrimination in education, employment, and upkeep of religious institutions. He condemned forced conversions, underage marriages, and stressed the need for strong legal protections.

Mr. Detho highlighted illegal land occupations, insecurity at worship sites, and underrepresentation of Bheel and Baghri communities. He reaffirmed SHRC’s independent role in protecting constitutional rights.

Citing cases like Arzoo Raja, Pooja Kumari, and recent blasphemy incidents, Mr. Detho emphasized SHRC’s intervention and support. He also mentioned efforts in the Shah Nawaz Kunbhar case.

He outlined SHRC’s input in key laws like the Forced Conversions Bill, Hindu Marriage Act, and Christian Marriage Bill, stressing training for local registrars.
SHRC’s outreach includes sessions in Tharparkar, Umerkot, and Larkana, plus inspections of schools and shrines. Mr. Detho referenced Articles 20 and 36 of the Constitution and Jinnah’s speech advocating religious freedom.

The convention ended with a strong commitment from Rwadari Tehreek, SHRC, and civil society to continue the struggle for minority rights in Sindh.
