Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, alongwith team visited the Remand Home & Certified School Karachi to evaluate the quality of educational, recreational, vocational training, and medical services provided to the children residing there. A thorough assessment of all sections was conducted to ensure effective management and child welfare and rehabilitation.Currently, 18 children are housed at the facility.
During the visit, a meeting was also held with Mr. Manzoor Hussain, Director Reclamation and Probation, Home Department and his team. It was shared that the Draft Probation Rules 2024 have been vetted by Law Department and are under consideration by the Home Department Government of Sindh.
Mr. Iqbal Detho emphasized:
The need to adopt after 18th CA ,the Probation Law i.e Probation Offenders Ordinance 1960 and present it to the relevant Standing Committee and stakeholders for input.
The importance of establishing remand homes in every district, as mandated by law initially at Division Headquarters such as Larkana,Sukkur,Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas.
The strengthening of rehabilitation services to ensure the rights and well-being of children in state care in the best interests of children.
SHRC remains committed to advocating for stronger legal protections and improved rehabilitation systems for vulnerable children across Sindh.
