Visit of Chairperson, Sindh Human Rights Commission to Judicial Lockup Shahdadkot  


The visit aimed to assess the conditions of under-trial prisoners (UTPs), ensure the protection of human rights, evaluate compliance with legal standards, and address any grievances of the inmates.  


Observations and Findings:  
Infrastructure & Living Conditions: Urgent maintenance and better sanitation facilities are needed.  
Legal Assistance: Two UTPs raised concerns over limited access to legal representation and timely legal aid.  
Health & Medical Facilities: Inadequate medical services were reported, highlighting the need for regular check-ups.  
Human Rights Violations & Complaints: Complaints of ill-treatment and delays in legal proceedings were noted, with assurance from the Chairperson to take up these issues with the authorities.  


Recommendations:  
Immediate improvement of hygiene and sanitation.  
Strengthening of legal aid and consultation services.  
Ensuring regular medical check-ups and healthcare services.  
Establishing a mechanism for timely redressal of human rights violations.

 
Conclusion:  
The visit underscored the need for urgent improvements in the judicial lockup. The Sindh Human Rights Commission will follow up with relevant authorities to ensure the necessary reforms are implemented.
