SHRC & SJA Conclude Human Rights Laws Workshop in Larkana Division

The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), in collaboration with the Sindh Judicial Academy, held a one-day training programme on January 23, 2025, to enhance the capacity of 29 district-level judges from Larkana division in handling women protection cases. The training focused on addressing the challenges faced by women and girls due to climate-induced displacement and poverty.  


SHRC Chairperson Iqbal Ahmed Detho, alongside District & Sessions Judge Naveed Ahmed Soomro, discussed key legal frameworks, including the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013, Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2004, and the Prevention of Anti-Women Practices Act 2011. They emphasized the link between climate change and gender-based violence.  


Barrister Rida Tahir and Barrister Aashir Masood highlighted the increasing instances of domestic violence in displaced communities and stressed the need for effective implementation of laws like the Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2013.


Justice Omar Siyal of the Sindh High Court, distributed certificates, reaffirming the SHRC and SJA’s commitment to strengthening the judicial system and promoting human rights awareness.


The programme reaffirmed SHRC’s commitment to protecting women's rights and building the judiciary's capacity in addressing these critical issues.
