A workshop on human rights laws, organized by the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) in collaboration with the Sindh Judicial Academy (SJA), concluded with the participation of 23 judges and magistrates from Sukkur division.
The workshop aimed to enhance participants' understanding of laws related to consumer protection, human trafficking, gender-based violence, and juvenile justice. SHRC Chairperson Iqbal Ahmed Detho, along with Mr. Naveed Soomro, Senior Faculty Member at the Sindh Judicial Academy, highlighted the judiciary’s crucial role in implementing these laws and ensuring swift justice for victims. Mr. Soomro specifically discussed the Sindh Consumer Protection Act, 2014, and the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016, emphasizing their significance in safeguarding citizens' rights.
Experts, including Barristers Rida Tahir and Barrister Aashir Mahar, highlighted key legislations such as the Sindh Domestic Violence Act, 2013, the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act, 2018, and the Juvenile Justice System Act, 2018. Discussions addressed legal gaps and practical challenges in enforcement.
Justice Mohammad Saleem Jessar of the Sindh High Court, Sukkur bench, distributed certificates, reaffirming the SHRC and SJA’s commitment to strengthening the judicial system and promoting human rights awareness.
