The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), in collaboration with Bhittai Social Watch & Advocacy(BSWA), concluded a two-day workshop at the Town Municipal Office, Saddar, Karachi. The event aimed to enhance government officials’ understanding of laws protecting marginalized groups.
Key participants included representatives from the Human Rights Department, Government of Sindh, Social Welfare Department, Government of Sindh, Local Government, Minority Affairs, Labour & Human Resources, Women Development Department Sindh, and law enforcement agencies.
Chairperson SHRC, Iqbal Ahmed Detho, highlighted the critical role of government bodies in combating violations against women and marginalized communities. He emphasized aligning local laws like the Domestic Violence Act (2013), the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act (2013), and the Protection Against Harassment at the Workplace Act (2010). The sessions also covered: Combating domestic violence and workplace harassment Addressing child marriages Reinforcing district-level human rights structures.
Judicial Member SHRC, Justice (F) Arshad Noor, praised participants’ dedication and called for stronger collaboration between government bodies, law enforcement, and civil society to foster inclusivity and justice.
The workshop ended with a certificate ceremony, reflecting SHRC’s ongoing mission to empower officials with legal expertise for effective human rights enforcement.
