Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), held a meeting with representatives of the National Advocacy For Rights of Innocent-NARI Foundation Sukkur and Strengthening Participatory Organization - SPO Sukkur, namely Mr. Anwar Mahar, Executive Director of NARI Foundation, Ms. Shazia Abbasi, Project Manager of NARI Foundation, and Mr. Irshad Soomro, Project Manager of SPO Sukkur at SHRC Regional office Sukkur.
The discussions focused on the urgent need to tackle malnutrition in Sindh and to ensure the effective implementation of the Breastfeeding Act 2023 and the Food Fortification Act 2021. The representatives also presented a letter to SHRC, urging the Commission to advocate for:
1 Enhanced enforcement of the Breastfeeding Act and Food Fortification Act.
2 Monitoring mechanisms to address gaps in nutrition-related initiatives.
3 Stronger collaboration between government bodies and civil society organizations to combat malnutrition.
The SHRC reaffirms its commitment to advancing human rights by prioritizing health and nutrition in Sindh.
