One-Day Training on Capacity Building of Human Rights Defenders Concludes in Jacobabad.

The Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), in collaboration with a partner organization, organized a one-day training program titled "Capacity Building of Human Rights Defenders" in Jacobabad. The event aimed to empower human rights defenders with the knowledge and tools required to effectively address challenges and advocate for human rights in the Larkana Division. Activists, legal professionals, and community workers from various districts gathered for a day of engaging discussions and strategic planning.

The training focused on critical local issues, including forced conversions, child marriages, honor killings, and police brutality, while exploring actionable solutions to these pressing challenges.
Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of SHRC, underscored the need to reform the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) framework to align with international standards. He highlighted the importance of integrating CRVS systems with health, education, and social protection sectors to ensure universal birth registration and social inclusion under the Sindh Government’s free birth registration initiative. He also called for strengthening district-level mechanisms, such as activating District Criminal Justice Coordination Committees and establishing Citizens’ Police Liaison Committees.

The training covered human rights frameworks under Pakistan’s Constitution, the Human Rights Policy 2023-2028, and international standards. Participants discussed media advocacy, interfaith harmony, and local challenges, including hate speech, missing persons, street crime, drug abuse, and promoting women’s education, while developing district-specific action plans.

Mr. Sarfaraz Jamali, Superintendent of Complaints at SHRC, reiterated the Commission's commitment to safeguarding human rights through a multi-stakeholder approach.
Certificates were distributed to participants. The event concluded with a feedback session where participants shared key takeaways and recommendations for future initiatives.
