Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, attended and addressed the Closing Ceremony of the Training of Trainers Workshop for prosecutors and lawyers on December 31, 2024, at Movenpick Hotel, Karachi.
During his address, Mr. Detho shared the study conducted by SHRC, titled "A Roadmap for Addressing Domestic Violence in Sindh through Implementation of The Domestic Violence (Prevention and Protection) Act 2013 and Rules 2016". This study provides critical insights and actionable recommendations for effectively combating domestic violence in Sindh.
The workshop, organized by the Islamic Research Institute, International Islamic University Islamabad (IRI) of the International Islamic University, Islamabad (IIUI) in collaboration with the The Asia Foundation, focused on "Gender-Based Violence Reduction in Pakistan through Increased Justice System Capacity". It brought together prosecutors, lawyers, legal experts, to address gender-based violence and enhance justice system effectiveness.
Mr. Detho emphasized the importance of implementing legislative frameworks, such as the Domestic Violence Act, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to ensure justice and gender equality in society.
