On Friday, December 20, 2024, a delegation from the "Thar Citizen Forum" visited the Sindh Human Rights Commission to meet Chairperson Iqbal Ahmed Detho. Chairperson Iqbal Ahmed Detho provided an update on actions taken, including improvements in technical education, addressing labor rights, and the opening of technical education institutes. Additionally, efforts were made to enhance health and safety standards in salt mines and brick kilns.
Following the meeting, the Chairperson arranged a session with Mr. Tahir Hussain Sangi, Secretary of the Mines and Mineral Department. He briefed the delegation on the cancellation of 29 and ongoing 41 leases after the Rules-2023 in the salt mines. He also highlighted the recruitment of new inspectors tasked with enforcing health and safety regulations for miners.
Chairperson Detho recommended training newly recruited inspectors on relevant laws and offered to facilitate their training at NILAT.
