On Sunday, December 15, 2024, a three-day training session for 64 selected children from across Sindh was inaugurated at Karachi, organized by the Thar Education Alliance in collaboration with UNICEF Pakistan. The session marked the beginning of the establishment of the Children’s Parliament.
During the opening ceremony, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, Iqbal Ahmed Detho, delivered a detailed lecture on local governance, roles, responsibilities, and empowerment of society through local government. He also provided insights into international rights frameworks, focusing on the rights of children.
Furthermore, the Chairperson discussed the structure of provincial officers' duties and their relationships with local communities, referencing the Local Government Act of 2013 and other relevant laws. He explained the role of the national government and its relationship with provincial and local government systems.
The objectives of the Children’s Parliament, its potential impact on the educational system, and its significance in creating a safe and effective framework for children were also highlighted.
During the session, children had the opportunity to ask questions, and comprehensive, reassuring answers were provided to address their queries.
