Iqbal Ahmed Detho participated as the guest speaker at Empowering Inclusion, an event organized by Bedari to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
During his address, Mr. Detho emphasized:
Sindh Government’s Commitment: A grant of 2 billion PKR has been allocated to multiple departments for the welfare of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
Inclusive Planning: The Sindh Human Rights Commission Strategic Plan 2025-2027 now includes a dedicated focus on enhancing the rights and welfare of PwDs.
Addressing Challenges:
- Activation of the PwDs Authority and Council, along with its endowment fund.
- Urgent need for data collection and segregation to identify and support PwDs effectively.
Vocational Training: Partnerships with institutions like STEVETA can enhance skill development for PwDs.
In conclusion, Mr. Detho shared success stories, including SHRC’s assistance in helping a one-eyed individual obtain a driver’s license. highlighting the need to challenge societal stigmas and end taboos against PwDs.
Way Forward: Mr.Iqbal urged local governments to play an active role in data collection and support mechanisms, ensuring no one is left behind.
