Chairperson (SHRC) participated as the Chief Guest at an Advocacy and Consultation meeting on advancing gender equity in Sindh’s health sector

Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, participated as the Chief Guest at an Advocacy and Consultation meeting held at Karachi. The event, aimed at advancing gender rights and equity mainstreaming across the health sector in Sindh Province through multi-sectoral engagement, was organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) Pakistan in partnership with the Health & Population Welfare Department, Sindh.


The purpose of the event was to develop a strategic action plan to ensure equitable health services for all and to address the challenges faced in the sector. During his address, Mr. Detho discussed various laws concerning health rights, including the Medico-Legal Act 2023 and the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013. He also highlighted the efforts of the Sindh Human Rights Commission in addressing health-related complaints through hospital inspections and reviews of relevant laws.


Mr. Detho emphasized the importance of policies outlined in the Commission's recent report, discussed the detrimental effects of child marriage, and shared the positive impact of similar laws implemented globally. He assured all stakeholders of the Sindh Human Rights Commission's full support in advancing these critical issues.
