Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), spoke at a Supply Chain Due Diligence workshop organized by Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, Pakistan. SHRC is advancing business and human rights through its mandate under Section 4(V) of the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act, 2011 (Amended-2023). In partnership with FES and the Labour & Human Resource Department, SHRC launched the Pakistan Labour Academy (PLA), offering a one-week training program for labour activists and union leaders at the National Institute of Labour Administration Training (NILAT) in Karachi.
SHRC and FES have conducted public hearings in Ghotki and Tharparkar, addressing human and labour rights due diligence, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions. These hearings assess social impacts and aim to establish effective business and human rights standards. Public hearings will soon extend to Sanghar, Badin, and Dadu.
SHRC will soon begin factory visits to monitor worker conditions and ensure compliance with human rights. Additionally, it handles around 80 complaints related to minimum wage disputes, occupational health, workplace harassment, and more, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding workers' rights in Sindh.
