Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, attended a consultation organized by NCA, Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP) and Strengthening Participatory Organization - SPO in Karachi, focusing on the prevention of violence against women. The event emphasized the importance of laws, institutions, and community efforts in addressing this issue. Women from Sanghar, Umerkot, and Mirpurkhas shared their experiences and successes in advocating for women's rights, and a theater performance raised awareness about child marriage and domestic violence.
Chairperson Detho discussed the Sindh Hindu Marriage Act, Sindh Child Marriage Act, and Sindh Domestic Violence Law, detailing the Commission’s efforts to enforce these laws. He also highlighted the proposed establishment of a Dar-ul-Aman in Mirpurkhas and emphasized the importance of safe houses, women’s police stations, and shelter homes. Detho reassured social organizations of the Commission’s support in ensuring the effective implementation of relevant laws.
