Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), along with his team, visited Jacobabad district and held discussions with SSP Jacobabad, DC Jacobabad, other government officials and acivil society representatives at the SSP Office in Jacobabad. The focus of the meeting was on pressing human rights issues affecting women in the district, such as karo kari, rape, and domestic violence. The team also closely followed the case involving the harassment and assault of a polio worker in Jacobabad.
Due to persistent follow-up by SHRC, a major breakthrough was achieved with the registration of an FIR (No: 195/2024) against the suspects at PS Airport. In a separate development, the accused—Naseer Unar (husband), Nazeer Unar (brother-in-law), and Basheer, son of Nazeer—have been taken into custody under charges outlined in Sections 310A, 506/2, and 34 of the PPC.
The SHRC team also stressed the urgent need for upgrading the Darul Aman and the women’s police station in Jacobabad, calling for similar improvements across Sindh to better address women's rights and safety.
They highlighted the importance of visiting the Safe House and the under-construction Darul Aman, as well as the Deputy Director of the Women Development Office, to ensure these facilities meet the necessary standards for supporting women in distress.
