On September 2nd and 3rd, the Sindh Human Rights Commission, in collaboration with SSDO Pakistan and the Training Branch Sindh Police, organised two-day training for probationary inspectors (investigation). Held at the Central Police Office Karachi, the session focused on enhancing understanding of key human rights laws including:
- The Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act 2022 - The Sindh Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act 2015 - The Juvenile Justice System Act 2018 - Sindh Domestic Violence (Prevention & Protection) Act 2013 - The Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act 2010 -Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013 -Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Act 2018
The session was led by various speakers included, Iqbal Ahmed Detho (SHRC Chairperson), Syed Kausar Abbas (SSDO Executive Director), Barrister Rida Tahir (Gender & Child Rights Expert), Shahid Shafiq (District & Session Judge), and Barrister Mahar Aashir Masood (Advocate High Court).
During the closing ceremony, Additional IG Khadim Hussain Rind expressed his gratitude to Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson (SHRC) for organizing the training program. In his address to the trainees, he stressed the crucial importance of being "sensitive towards victims and their families" in the discharge of their duties.
Drawing from his own professional experience, he highlighted the value of upholding the highest standards of professionalism. He concluded his speech by emphasizing the significance of assigning the "right person for the job," underscoring the need for competent and capable individuals in critical roles."
