Empowering Youth Workshop: The Importance of Human Rights

Mirpurkhas—In a pivotal training workshop hosted by the Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP), Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, underscored the necessity for youth to be well-versed in their fundamental and human rights. The workshop aimed to equip young people with the knowledge needed to be informed and responsible citizens. Mr. Detho emphasized that understanding economic, social, and political rights under the Sindh Youth Policy 2018 is crucial for their role in society.

The SHRC is taking significant steps to foster this awareness, including the establishment of Human Rights Centers at various universities across Sindh. Future initiatives include a Youth Convention and a Winter School Course on human rights. Abdul Wahid Sangrasi and Muhammad Bux Kapri of the Civil Society Support Program outlined their efforts to educate youth at the district level and through Youth Committees. The workshop also featured insights from District & Session Judge/ Senior Faculty Member, Sindh Judicial Academy, Mr. Shahid Shafiq on legal protections and provided detailed and practical information on laws related to preventing child marriages, violence against children and women, and sexual abuse. Mr. Sarfaraz Jamali on filing complaints, with a strong turnout of engaged young participants.
