The Core Committee formed by Local Government met under the leadership of Syed Khalid Hyder Shah, Additional Chief Secretary of the Local Government & Housing Town Planning Department, Government of Sindh, to review and finalize by-laws concerning birth, marriage, divorce, and death. The session was co-chaired by Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission. Notable participants included representatives from the Local Government Department, Health & Population Welfare Department, Sindh, Law Department and representatives of UNICEF Pakistan, UNFPA Pakistan and the World Health Organization- Pakistan .
The committee’s agenda focused to review several key areas: examining the draft CRVS ( Civil Registration and Vital Statistics) manual and by-laws in alignment with Sindh’s existing legal and institutional frameworks, comparing CRVS practices with other provinces and international best practices, and assessing the implementation mechanisms for CRVS in the province. This includes considering legislative proposals to amend the Rules of Business 1986 in relevant departments to ensure effective and comprehensive implementation for data related life events.
