The Treaty Implementation Cell (TIC) of the Human Rights Department, Government of Sindh, convened the 2nd meeting of the its Provincial Steering Committee on Business and Human Rights, chaired by Secretary Tahseen Fatima co-chaired by Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission,
Representatives from various government departments/institutions, as well as stakeholders such as Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, UNDP Pakistan, International Labour Organization - Pakistan, Mr. Zulfiqar Shah (Member-SHRC) and others attended.
Chairperson shared the Commission's briefing paper on Pakistan's GSP+ obligations, focusing on navigating human and labor rights compliance in Sindh and Recommendations included efforts to retain GSP+ status beyond 2027, withdrawing reservations, ensuring compliance reporting and implementation of treaty bodies' recommendations, strengthening EU compliance monitoring with the involvement of NHRIs and civil society, and debates at the assembly regarding ratification, reservations, and compliance of international conventions. Additionally, there were calls to utilize committees for improved labor and human rights policy design, delivery, and oversight, ensure implementation of SHRD's institutional development plan, and introduce plans to strengthen the labor and human resources department for implementation of labor related laws.
