The Legal Aid Society in partnership with the Sindh Human Rights Commission, spearheaded a powerful HeForShe awareness campaign at a ABD Law College in Sukkur. Chairperson SHRC, Iqbal Ahmed Detho, and Barrister Rida (legal advisor - SHRC) led an enlightening session on various facets of gender-based violence, shedding light on its different forms such as physical, verbal, psychological, sexual, and socio-economic violence.
The session delved into the crucial role of men and boys in taking full responsibility, working alongside women and girls, to redress the gendered power dynamics that hinder gender equality.
Transforming unequal power dynamics between men and women involves challenging notions of masculinity and traditional perceptions of manhood. This entails actively questioning the existing power structures in their actions or words at the personal, interpersonal, and societal levels, and taking responsibility for change. Thus, it is crucial to engage men and boys as HeForShe advocates to speak out as active agents of change who can transform social norms, behaviors, and gender stereotypes that perpetuate discrimination and inequality.
