*Empowering Women: Ensuring Matrimonial Property Rights*
At the “Conference on Women's Right to Matrimonial Property,” Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, highlighted the essential role of rights in protection and empowerment. During the panel discussion on “Challenges in Implementing Women's Right to Marital Property,” he emphasized the significance of Article 25 of the Constitution of Pakistan and discussed key provisions such as Articles 35, 37, and 38. He also discussed the principles of policy and fundamental rights.
Mr. Detho stressed the importance of equality and non-discriminatory rights, noting that rights create duties and accountability. He pointed out that after the 18th Amendment, several Acts, including the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Work Place Act, 2010 should be provincialized.
He also brought attention to issues specific to Sindh, such as the absence of CNIC details on Nikkah Namas. Furthermore, the Sindh Human Rights Commission has proposed 10 crucial points to the Local Government Department to address these challenges.
