The National Lobbying delegation had a meeting with the Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission.

We were honored to welcome the National Lobbying delegation at the Sindh Human Rights Commission office.

The focus of our discussion was the Muslim Family Law Ordinance (MFLO-1961). The delegation highlighted the need for proper filling of the Nikkah Nama and the inclusion of CNIC details. They also emphasized the importance of Nikkah Registrar training by the Local Government department and better registration of marriages.

Our Chairperson, Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho shared that SHRC has been proactive in recommending reforms. A letter was sent to the Additional Chief Secretary, Local Government & Housing Town Planning Department, Government of Sindh, outlining key recommendations for reforms in Muslim marriage laws in Sindh.

Mr. Detho also spoke about his recent meeting with the ACS to establish a collaborative partnership for future capacity-building efforts. He highlighted SHRC's collaboration with Community World Service, focusing on minority rights, especially concerning the Sindh Hindu Marriage (Amendment) Act 2018. He elaborated on Articles 227 and 227(3) of the constitution, the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013, and the draft Rules 2024.

Ms. Rida Tahir, Legal Advisor at SHRC, discussed the Domestic Violence (Prevention & Protection) Act 2013 and Rules 2016, along with the number of cases registered under this law. She also discussed the legislative gaps in detail.

The delegation included Adv. Muhammad Bux Kumbhar, Deeba Parwaiz, Erum Jawed, Khalid Ishaque, and Muhammad Eidal.
