Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) held meeting with Govt officials and representatives of Hindu Community at Deputy Commissioner office, Sukkur on lack of implementation of The Sindh Hindu Marriages (Amendment) Act 2018.
Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Muhammad Bakhsh Darejo extended a warm welcome to the participants.
Board Member SHRC, Mr. Sukhdev Assardas Hemnani, presided over the meeting with district administration and officials from various departments. He highlighted that a significant portion of the Hindu community lacks awareness about marriage registration procedures, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced awareness.
Mr. Hemnani further highlighted that SHRC has noticed the lack of implementation of The Sindh Hindu Marriages (Amendment) Act 2018 and in this regard is conducting district-wise meetings across the province to identify and address the impediments in implementation.
The Sindh Hindu Marriages (Amendment) Act 2018 plays a crucial role in ensuring the marriage rights of the Hindu/Sikh/Jain communities. Acknowledging the importance of the Sindh Hindu Marriages (Amendment) Act 2018, and at the request of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, Deputy Commissioner M.B. Darejo has appointed Ms. Bushra Mansoor, Additional Deputy Commissioner-II Sukkur, as the focal person for District Sukkur. Ms. Mansoor will collaborate closely with the Hindu community to ensure the effective implementation of the Act.
