The Sindh Human Rights Commission was visited by Ms. Lara Strangways, Head of Business and Human Rights at Global Rights Compliance (GRC) Foundation and Mr. Karamat Ali, Executive Director at The Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER), at SHRC Karachi office.
Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of SHRC, gave an overview of the Commission's composition, functions, and powers and shared the briefing on Labour Rights theme.
During the presentation, Mr. Detho presented SHRC’s initiatives aimed at promoting and safeguarding Labour Rights given institutional and legal framework. These include the collaboration with FES regarding the establishment of the Pakistan Labour Academy, various training endeavors, and heightened awareness campaigns concerning Labour Laws. Additionally, Mr. Detho highlighted the significance of SOHRIS.com SHRC online platform dedicated to Human Rights Education.
Ms. Lara underscored the paramount importance of comprehensive employer training on Labour laws, emphasizing the pivotal role of education in ensuring the protection and fulfillment of workers' rights.
