Chairperson (SHRC) visited Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry, Hyderabad

The Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, Iqbal Ahmed Detho visited Cowasjee Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry, along with his team. During his visit, he interacted with patients from various units, including the OPD, Narcotic ward, new psychiatric emergency unit, new women's ward, subacute and treatment trial ward and the forensic ward for UTPs.

He inquired about the hospital's problems, litigation issues, ambulance services, adult learning programs, rehabilitation, and recreational activities. Particularly, he spent significant time with substance abuse patients. While in the psychiatric emergency unit, he swayed along with the Sindhi Sufi Kalam, promoting music therapy.

Furthermore, the SHRC underscores the importance of establishing an old age home within the institute’s premises to cater to the growing population of senior citizens in need of specialized care and support.

In addition to addressing staffing and infrastructure deficiencies, the SHRC emphasizes the need for improved support services for patients with unknown family backgrounds. Collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is essential to facilitate the identification and location of family members, ensuring timely communication and support for vulnerable patients.
