The Sindh Human Rights Commission and National Advocacy For Rights of Innocent-NARI Foundation convened a consultation at the Sindh Human Rights Commission Regional office in Sukkur, focusing on the Rules of Business "The Sindh Women Agriculture Workers Act 2019."
Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson SHRC stressed the challenges faced by female agricultural laborers and urged the swift creation and execution of these rules. He also addressed the commission's intention to establish connections between female agricultural workers and other relevant departments, aiming for their benefit.
Mr. Anwar Ali Mehr, Executive Director, NARI Foundation shared the Act aims to improve conditions for these workers, offering them a chance to organize and access income support programs. However, without clear guidelines, its benefits remain unfulfilled.
Ms. Farzana Khosa, highlighted that this gap exposes women to exploitation and denies them essential benefits like social security and old age benefit.
Mr. Abdullah Dayo, Program advisor @FESPakistanOffice, hailed the Sindh Women Agriculture Workers Act 2019 as a pivotal legislation capable of changing the lives of numerous women in agriculture. He stressed the urgent need for swift establishment of Rules of Business to bring the Act.
