Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho Chairperson of Sindh Human Rights Commission, recently addressed a pre-election advocacy seminar, “Nutrition Matters – Shaping Political Agendas for a Healthier Pakistan,” organized by Scaling Up Nutrition Civil Society Alliance, Pakistan.

In his compelling speech, Mr. Detho underscored the pivotal role of food and nutrition security as a fundamental human right crucial for the well-being of individuals and communities globally. He emphasized the State’s responsibility to uphold fundamental nutritional standards in food, aligning with the principles outlined in The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).

Diving into the constitutional framework, Mr. Detho highlighted the significance of Article 9 of Pakistan’s Constitution, emphasizing the constitutional mandate to ensure the right to adequate food for all citizens.
