M. Aslam Shaikh, Member Judicial-II of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), along with Mr. Sarfaraz Jamali, Superintendent, Complaints and Inquires (SHRC), led a delegation accompanied by the legal team of Pakistan Legal United Society & Legal Aid Office (Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners) visited the Juvenile Jail in Hyderabad.

The primary objective of this visit was to assess the conditions within the juvenile detention facility and ensure the protection of the rights and well-being of the young detainees. Here are the significant findings and their implications.

The living conditions within the juvenile detention center were generally satisfactory. However, there were some concerns about the treatment and discipline methods used with the young inmates.

During the visit, it was assessed the availability and effectiveness of educational and rehabilitation programs for the juveniles.

The legal team accompanying Member Judicial-II (SHRC) examined the provision of legal representation and the fairness of legal proceedings for juveniles. It is crucial to uphold the rights of young detainees, including their right to a fair trial and access to legal counsel.

The findings emphasize the importance of prioritizing rehabilitation and reintegration programs for juvenile inmates. These initiatives play a pivotal role in helping young offenders reintegrate into society as responsible and law-abiding citizens.
