Justice (Retired) Arshad Noor Khan, Judicial Member-I of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, conducted a visit to Central Jail Karachi, accompanied by Barrister Rida Tahir, (Law Consultant), Zaheer Hussain, and Talha Ali, and also the teams of Legal Aid Office (Committee for the Welfare of Prisoners) and Pakistan Legal United Society.

The purpose of this visit was to address the concerns of the inmates, as well as assess the facilities provided by the administration.

During the visit, DIG Jail Nasir Khan and Deputy Superintendent Imad Hussain Chandio provided a comprehensive briefing. They highlighted administrative challenges and the delay in court proceedings due to the overcrowding of the jail, which has a capacity for 2400 inmates but currently houses more than 6000.

Subsequently, a thorough inspection was conducted in various sections of the jail, including the kitchen, hospital, school, art class, computer lab, library, music class, and other facilities dedicated to the prisoners. The conditions and services offered were carefully reviewed.

سندھ ہیومن رائٹس کمیشن کے جوڈیشل میمبر جسٹس ریٹائرڈ ارشد نور خان کا سینٹرل جیل کراچی کا دورہ۔

بیریسٹر ردا طاہر، ظہیر حسین اور طلحہ شاہ کے علاؤہ لیگل ایڈ سوسائٹی اور پاکستان لیگل یونائیٹڈ سوسائٹی کے میمبران بھی جوڈیشل میمبر کے ہمراہ دورے میں شامل تھے۔

دورے کا مقصد جیل میں قید قیدیوں کے مسائل سن کر ان کا مداوا کرنا اور انتظامیہ کی جانب سے فراہم کردہ سہولیات اور مینیجمینٹ کا جائزہ لینا تھا۔

ڈی آئی جی جیل ناصر خان اور ڈپٹی سپرٹینڈنٹ عماد حسین چانڈیو نے تفصیلی بریفننگ دی جس میں جیل میں گنجائش سے زیادہ قیدیوں کی موجودگی کی وجہ سے انتظامی معاملات کے امور میں مشکلات اور کورٹ پروڈکشن میں تاخیر کی شکایت کے ساتھ ساتھ گنجائش سے زیادہ قیدیوں کے لئے مزید جگہ کے حصول میں مدد کی بھی سفارش کی گئی۔ جیل میں 2400 قیدیوں کی گنجائش ہے جہاں 6000 سے زائد قیدیوں کو رکھا گیا ہے۔

بعد ازاں قیدیوں کے لئے بنے کچن، ہسپتال، اسکول، آرٹ کلاس، کمپیوٹر لیب، لائبریری، میوزک کلاس اور دیگر مختلف سیکشنز کا تفصیلی دورہ کرکے فراہم کی گئی سہولیات کا جائزہ لیا گیا۔
