The Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission provides valuable insights into the Transgender Act 2018 and conducts a thorough review of the Election Act 2017. He emphasizes the significance of the 2018 Charter of Demands for transgender protection, highlighting the challenges faced and proposing a way forward for political inclusion of transgender community. The SHRC Chairperson also appreciate the role played by UNDP's Strengthening and Electoral Legislative Process (SELP) in this important endeavor.
During her welcome speech, Gender Officer UNDP – SELP program, Ms. Amna Syed, outlined the objectives of the consultation meeting, which primarily focuses on drafting a comprehensive National Framework for Transgender Protection and Political Inclusion. Additionally, Ms. Nuzhat Shirin, Chairperson of the Sindh Commission for the Status of Women, shared insights on the commission's role in providing access to education and training for transgender individuals, enabling their political participation, and developing policies to prohibit harassment and hate speech against the transgender community. Nayab Ali, a transgender representative and advisor to UNDP, sheds light on the challenges encountered by the transgender community when participating in politics.
