Sindh Community Foundation SCF organized the dialogue on the status of agricultural workers in Sindh in line with GSP+ Challenges and way forward in collaboration with Sindh Human Rights Commission

Sindh Human Rights Commission is committed to finding solutions to the challenges faced by agricultural workers, particularly women, and working towards their empowerment and protection.

Sindh Community Foundation SCF organized the dialogue on the status of agricultural workers in Sindh in line with GSP+ Challenges and way forward in collaboration with Sindh Human Rights Commission with the aim of finding solutions to the many problems faced by agricultural workers, particularly women.

During the event, Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission, emphasized the importance of implementing labor laws and protecting human rights, particularly in connection with international commitments. He also highlighted the role of the commission as a bridge between civil society and government as the role of the commission is the recommendatory body.

He further shared that the EU's Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) gives us a special incentive to pursue sustainable development and good governance. We're committed to making the most of this opportunity to improve our country and protect the rights of our people.

Mr. Javed Hussain, Head of Sindh Community Foundation, highlighted the emerging challenge of climate change and its impact on the livelihoods and labor rights security of agricultural workers. He particularly emphasized the harsh working conditions faced by women cotton workers in hot temperatures.

Barrister Rida Tahir, Consultant SHRC, shared valuable insights into the challenges faced by women workers in the agricultural sector, and how the recently enacted Sindh Women Workers Act, 2019 is helping to address these challenges.

A diverse range of speakers was at the event, including Dr. Ismail Kumbhar, Mr. Zulfqar Halepoto, Mirza Maqsood, Farhat Parween, Syed Nadeem Shah, Zahida Detho, Shahnaz Sheedi, Marvi Awan, Taj Maree, Abdul Samad Sommro, Dr. Aslam Memon and women cotton workers from Matiari District.
