Public Assembly at Sachal Auditorium, Khairpur on the plight of flood Victims.
The Sindh Human Rights Commission, Government of Sindh in collaboration with Bhittai Social Watch and Advocacy (BWSO) arranged a public Assembly on Thursday, 11th May, 2023 at Sachal Auditorium Khairpur regarding relief and rehabilitation of flood victims which was chaired by the Chairperson SHRC Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Mr. Sharjeel Noor Channa and Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Rohail Khoso and was attended by other lined Government departments i.e. Local Government Department, Women Development Department, Public Health Engineering Department, Agriculture and Irrigation Departments and XEN WAPDA respectively.
After comprehensively listening to the plight of flood victims specially belonging to Taluka Thari Mirwah , Faiz Ganj, the Chairperson in his recommendations reiterated that The Deputy Commissioner Khairpur may notify a special committee under his supervision (or any other competent officer from the District Headquarter) comprising of Irrigation officials (XEN), Public Health Engineering Department, Agriculture Extension Department, Social Welfare Department, Women Development Department, Local Assistant Commissioners/Mukhtiarkars, NGOs representatives) and local persons (having undisputed repute) from Taluka Faiz Ganj and Thari Mirwah with a mandate to work on the possible actions for relief and rehabilitation of the Flood Victims.
The Chairperson in his address also called for localization of Climate Justice Phenomenon and called for directing the Government resources towards the areas which are worst affected due to floods of 2022.
The Chairperson also called the Government functionaries for taking pre-emptive measures like early warning systems and timely relocation prior to upcoming monsoon season.
