Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission spoke at the Tri-Party Consultation organized by the National Commission for Justice and Peace. He thanked the NCJP for inviting the Commission to discuss important human rights issues.
Mr.Detho discussed the Sindh Hindus Marriage (Amendment) Act 2018, which includes provisions for the age of bride and groom, consent of the contracting party, and registration of marriages. He emphasized that there are some areas that require further attention, such as the licensing authority, remarriages of widows, and financial rights of widows.
Mr. Detho emphasized the importance of ensuring that all constitutional rights apply to both the majority and the minority. He stated that while there is a priority given to human rights issues, there is still work to be done to ensure that all rights are covered properly.
