The Chairperson of SHRC spoke at an event to celebrate the International Day of Transgender Visibility, arranged by Sub Rang Society with the support of the Human Rights Department, Government of Sindh. He recognized the historical and religious significance of the transgender community and believes in their right to state protection. He added that the colonial law which criminalized the transgender community in 1871 was a grave injustice and has had long-lasting effects. It is time for these laws to be revisited and rectified.

He further shared that a scheme is being developed for police reforms and socio-economic measures to support transgender persons and ensure their rights to education, employment, security, and health. It is crucial that these measures are put in place to provide equal opportunities and protection for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity.

Mr. Surendar Valasai Special Assistant to the Sindh Chief Minister on human rights, shared that their government is working towards ensuring the rights of transgender people in Sindh. He added that the transgender quota and benefits to the Benazir Income Support Program are commendable steps towards promoting inclusivity and providing support to the transgender community.

The speakers at the event were in solidarity with the transgender community and committed to supporting their rights and inclusion in all aspects of society. This is an important step in building a more accepting and supportive environment for the transgender community.
