Day 01 - Strengthening SHRC for Countering Violent Extremism

On December 13, 2021, the Sindh Human Rights Commission, Government of Sindh, and Aurat Foundation held a "Stakeholder Consultation" at the Marriot Hotel in Karachi as part of the project "Strengthening Sindh Human Rights Commission for CVE (Countering Violent Extremism) Oversight and Peace Building."

The project aims to produce an official report for SHRC with CVE/VE-focused policy recommendations for government and elected officials, based on information gathered through training, research, and community engagement.

Ms. Mahnaz Rahman, Resident Director, Aurat Foundation welcomed all the participants.

Justice (R) Majida Razvi, Chairperson Sindh Human Rights Commission gave the opening remarks and discussed the status of Minorities Commission Bill 2015.Ms. Nazish Brohi, Lead Researcher, shared the background / methodology and Policy recommendations on CVE thematic areas and Ms. Maleeha Manzooor shared the case study research findings.

Mr. Mohsin Abbas Syed, Legal Expert shared the Legislative Framework on CVE related laws.

The program was moderated by Muneezeh Khan, Project Manager, Aurat Foundation.

The outcome of the Stakeholder Consultation included analyzing critical gaps covering minority issues and related laws, policy recommendation and SHRC’s role in the entire process.
