Orientation Session on Peace building and Countering Violent Extremism

Sindh Human Rights Commission held an Orientation Session on Peace building and Countering Violent Extremism for the board members and sub-committee members of the Commission in collaboration with Aurat Foundation.

The Commission routinely highlights and deals with the cases pertaining to violent extremism and countering violent extremism in Sindh and strives to contribute towards our vision of creation of a society free of violence, extremism and have an environment of peace, interfaith harmony and justice.

Mr. Mohsin Abbas Syed, Legal Expert, shared the Federal & Provincial Level CVE Policies and Laws from Human Rights Perspective like Sindh Protection of Communal Properties of Minorities Act, 2013, Sindh Witness Protection Act, 2013, Sindh Information of Temporary Residents Act, 2015, Sindh Sound Systems (Regulation) Act, 2015, Sindh Charities Registration and Regulation Act, 2019.

Justice (R) Majida Rizvi, Chairperson SHRC shared the Sindh Protection of Human Rights Act 2011 and gave the overview of the Commission and she also discussed the gaps and suggestions for the Commission.

Ms. Shahida Sajid Ali, Lead Trainer, shared the way forward- proposed action plan of SHRC for CVE, Compliance on international obligations including CVE into broader rights framework, building connections with relevant govt. departments for CVE oversight, advocating human rights agenda in context of CVE and peace building.

At the end Ms. Mahnaz Rahman, Resident Director, Aurat Foundation & Co-Trainer discoursed on Women in Leadership in Government, concept of leadership, attributes of leader, role of a leader, guiding points in government, challenges of women leadership, leadership skills and communication, gender and power dynamics, gender policy in government and also harassment Act.
