Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC), was the key speaker at the International Tri-Partite Conference titled ‘Towards Realization of Living Wage in Pakistan’s Garment Sector’. Organized by Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (PILER) and its partner organizations, this conference brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for effectively protecting labor rights in Pakistan.

In his speech, Mr. Detho addressed critical issues such as labour protection practices, minimum wage determination, and the realization of a living wage in Pakistan’s garment sector. He highlighted the importance of eliminating gender-related risks, ensuring social protections for women, and advocating for equal pay for equal work. Mr. Detho emphasized empowering women in a human-centered future of work and ensuring occupational safety and health. He called for collaborative efforts to build a fair and equitable working environment, essential for the sustainable development of the garment sector in Pakistan.
