Sindh Human Rights Commission has meeting with UNICEF Pakistan delegation. Mr. Iqbal Ahmed Detho, Chairperson of the (SHRC) gave overview of SHRC work spanning laws, reviews, publications, policies, and numerous cases handled.

The discussion took into crucial topics, particularly focusing on child rights, including the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act 2013 and Rules, the Sindh Hindu Marriage (Amendment) Act 2018, and the Sindh Child Protection Authority 2011. Gender as cross cutting subject was also discussed.

Rida Tahir, Legal Consultant at SHRC, highlighted significant interventions by the Commission, shedding light on cases like the Fatima Furiro case, demonstrating SHRC commitment to justice.

Ms. Veronica Kamanga Njikho, Regional Gender Advisor at UNICEF’s Regional Office for South Asia, emphasized the critical role of SHRC, especially in advocating for child rights, education, health, and combatting child marriage. She stressed the importance of effective case handling and response mechanisms.

Ms. Fahmida Iqbal, Gender and Development Specialist at UNICEF Country Office, Islamabad, commended SHRC's efforts, emphasizing the importance of engaging with the public and incorporating their concerns into policies and activating mechanisms.

Ms. Mehwish Maria, Child Protection Officer at the UNICEF Field Office, Karachi, expressed appreciation for SHRC's advocacy for children's rights.

Mr. Asif Abrar, Education Specialist underscored the need for children and youth through participation in school club / parliaments for right to education.

In closing SHRC reiterated commitment to providing technical support for rights of child in collaboration with UNICEF whenever needed. This collaboration exemplifies our shared commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children, and we look forward to furthering our partnership with UNICEF!
